Lady Tigers Knock Off Novinger in Tourney Opener

Scotland County, the number one seed in the Novinger Tournament, took it to the host team on Monday night to move into the semifinals with a 70-36 victory over the Wildcats.

Megan Creek poured in 10 of her game high 21 points in the first period as SCR-I built an 18-4 advantage.

Fellow junior Jessica Morrow picked up the scoring load in the second period, with eight points. Courtney Jackson knocked down a three pointer and Katie Howard added a pair of scores to extend the lead to 38-19 at the intermission.

Scotland County put the contest away in the third quarter with a 23-9 run that saw seven different Lady Tigers convert field goals. Howard, Creek, Morrow and Bethany Rader each had two buckets a piece during the spurt that extended the margin to 61-28.

SCR-I tacked on nine points, including a three pointer by Creek, in the final period with a running clock to post the 70-36 win.

Creek led all scorers with 21 points. Morrow finished with 13 points. Howard pitched in with eight points and Hailey Dial and Jackson each had seven points.

SCR-I improves to 1-1 on the season with the victory.
