Lady Tigers Capture Fourth Straight Novinger Tourney Title

It took a big second half, but Scotland County brought home its fourth consecutive Novinger Tournament title with a 47-37 victory over Milan on Saturday night.

The two teams struggled to find their offense in the first half. Scotland County's lone points in the first period came on a field goal by Cali Holt and a free throw by Megan Creek that left the score knotted at 3-3 after eight minutes of play.

Holt knocked down two more shots in the second quarter, but SCR-I managed just eight points as the two teams went to the locker room with the score tied at 11-11.

The Lady Tigers got the offense fired up in the third period. Hailey Dial connected from behind the three point line and Holt and Kiley Frazier each had a pair of hoops as Scotland County pulled ahead 26-21.

Megan Creek extended the margin with a three pointer to open the fourth period and Scotland County made its free throws down the stretch to preserve the 47-37 win. SCR-I made 11 of 15 free throws in a 20-point fourth quarter.

SCR-I (3-1) had four players in double digits, led by Holt with 12 points. Creek and Jessica Morrow each had 11 points while Frazier finished with 10 points.

Milan (2-1) was led in scoring by Jordon Dunlop with 13 points.
