SCR-I Opens Conference Play with 43-40 Win over Raiders

A big second quarter helped Scotland County pick up a 43-40 road win Tuesday night in Shelbyville against Tri-County Conference opponent North Shelby.

Brock Bondurant had six points in the first quarter but that wasn't enough to keep the Raiders from taking a12-10 lead after eight minutes of play.

Scotland County opened up the offense in the second quarter. Jacob Blessing connected on a three pointer and Brice Cowell, Andrew Mathes and Harley Stone each had a pair of field goals as the balanced scoring attack helped the Tigers take a 27-21 lead at halftime.

The offense slowed down in the third period, but SCR-I picked up the defensive pressure. The Tigers managed just a pair of field goals in the quarter. Cowell made three free throws to help the cause. SCR-I held North Shelby to just six points during the same stretch, actually expanding the margin to 35-27 heading into the final period.

The home team put on a run down the stretch, but the Tigers were able to get a pair of key hoops from Stone as well as field goals from Bondurant and Mathes to stave off the rally and hold on for the 43-40 win.

Bondurant paced the Tigers scoring with 12 points as SCR-I improved to 3-2 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. Stone added 10 points and Cowell finished with nine points.

The Raiders (1-2) were led in scoring by Lucas Daniel with 15 points.
