Midgets Get First Win at Expense of SCR-I

Drew Miller collides with the Putnam County defender as he goes strong to the basket during Tuesday night's game in Memphis.

Scotland County could not overcome a slow start on Tuesday night, as Putnam County escaped Memphis with a 62-56 Tri-Rivers Conference victory.

The Tigers managed just five points in the first period as Putnam County jumped out to the early advantage.

The Midgets expanded the lead to 29-19 at the intermission despite a pair of three pointers off the Scotland County bench from freshman Aaron Blessing.

Cory Lewis matched that output with a pair of shots from behind the arc in the third period for the Midgets as Putnam County held on to a 42-32 lead.

The Tigers put together some scoring in the final period as Harley Stone poured in 12 points. Drew Miller aided the rally with six points but the Tigers could not come up with enough stops on the defensive end to get back into the contest. Lewis and Riley Wood each had eight points down the stretch as the Midgets prevailed 62-56.

Stone led all scores with 22 points for the Tigers, who fell to 4-3 and 1-1 in the TRC. Brice Cowell added 10 points.

Lewis led Putnam County (1-5, 1-2) with 21 points and Wood finished with 17 points.
