New Surgery Center Now Open at Scotland County Hospital

Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO, opened its doors last week to the new Surgery Center which features the latest advanced technology in the operating suite & procedure room, and a comfortable family waiting room with coffee service & beverage vending. "Our previous surgery suite had served us well for over 40 years, but new technology, new procedures and greater volumes meant we had outgrown the 1970 facility," said Marcia Dial, CEO. "Everything is in place for comprehensive, expert surgery coverage - highly skilled surgeons, experienced anesthesia professionals, knowledgeable staff and an outstanding new facility."

The new Surgery Center layout recognizes the shift to more outpatient surgeries and planning for the future, with the safety of a complete hospital through the connecting double doors. The layout is designed with a specific flow for inpatients headed back to the Med/Surg floor and specific flow for outpatients headed home later that day.

"Our community is blessed to have such strong surgeons and an OR team that is equipped with the skills and resources to provide extraordinary care, right here where we live," said, Randy Tobler, MD, Chief of OB/GYN and Chief Medical Officer. "The Surgery Center will help lead the way in surgery advancements for patient care in the region."

The new surgery facilities, coupled with the addition of a second general surgeon, Dr. Keith Thomae, adds a great deal of benefits to the healthcare consumers in the area. "I came to Memphis, after having owned and operated my own surgery center, and I have to admit, this Hospital's new Surgery Center matches any stand-alone surgery center in any metropolitan area, " said Dr. Thomae. The addition of Dr. Thomae to the surgery teams puts the Hospital in the position to offer consistent, comprehensive surgery coverage. Dr. Thomae notes, "Scotland County has positioned itself to be equipped to deal with many medical and surgical emergencies for both the young and old."

The new facility will make it easier for outpatients, because they will not have to enter the Hospital, but rather enter and exit through a separate entrance and discharge exit area located on the north side of the Hospital. The new building has very accessible curbside parking, adjacent to the entrance.

According to Dr. Celeste Miller-Parish, Chief of Surgery, The Surgery Center at Scotland County Hospital is now equipped to perform a much more expanded list of general surgeries. "The new Surgery Center has the latest technology for our patients & surgeons, in terms of quality of care and ultimate patient/family convenience," said Dr. Miller-Parish.

When patients are faced with a physician's report for an impending surgery, look to Scotland County Hospital's new "The Surgery Center" to meet your needs, close to home.
