Gorin School Board Votes Down 4-Day School Week Proposal

The Gorin R-III Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, April 17. President Tague called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with all members present. President Tague then made a motion to go directly into executive session. Ginger Bass seconded the motion. The vote was 7-0.

In executive session the board reviewed documentation of staff members regarding an incident involving a student and staff issue. The Board also discussed the matter with several staff members. At 9:37 p.m. the Board returned to regular session.

The board first certified the April 3 election results and swore in the new board members. President Tague then presented members of the board with a copy of board policy 0340, Board member code of ethics. The policy was reviewed, next the board elected officers. Alicia Berry made a motion that the district maintain the current officers, board president Diane Tague, board secretary Ginger Bass, and board vice-president Ryan Miller. Rhonda Peterson seconded the motion. All voted in favor.

Following approval of the consent agenda items the board addressed the public forum. Chad Peterson, Jessica Miller, and Amy Sizemore addressed the board.

Under old business the board decided not to pursue a four-day school week. In new business Mrs. Townsend shared the 21st Century afterschool snack food review findings. Mrs. Townsend also shared that the three concerns found had all been addressed.

The board returned to executive session at 9:58 p.m. to discuss the public forum comments and non-certified evaluations and contracts.

The board returned to regular session at 11:25 p.m. and adjourned immediately following.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting is Tuesday, May 15 at 6:30 p.m. Upcoming school events include the carnival on Friday, May 4th and graduation on Monday, May 14. The last day of school is Wednesday, May 16.
