Nuns 'Drinking Habits' to Take Center Stage at Memphis Theatre

Cast members for the Memphis Community Players production of "Drinking Habits" are (L to R) Jeff Dyer. Teresa Cotton, Joe Fulk, Brooke Wineinger, Lori Fulk, Lynnette Dyer, Angela Westhoff, George Koontz and Frank Wineinger.

The traditional attire of Catholic nuns is called a habit. While many of the characters in the upcoming Memphis Community Players' summer production will be adorned in the customary nun garb, the play's title, "Drinking Habits" reveals that this isn't your everyday convent.

Playgoers will have plenty to laugh about nightly on August 2, 3, and 4, as the Players perform three showings of "Drinking Habits", beginning nightly at 7:30 p.m. at the Memphis Theatre.

The comedy "Drinking Habits" begins with Sisters Philamena (Lynnette Dyer) and Augusta (Angela Westhoff), from the nearly "insignificant" convent of The Sisters of Perpetual Sewing, while they are sewing garments. The sisters become frantic when they hear a frost is expected, threatening the convent's treasured juice grapes. Only the two nuns know that the grapes they harvest are used not only to make grape juice, but to make wine - something forbidden by Mother Superior (Lori Fulk).

Other cast members include reporters Joe Fulk and Brooke Wineinger, groundskeeper Jeff Dyer, Sister Mary Catherine portrayed by Teresa Cotton, and George Koontz as Father Chenille. These characters will entertain with the funny story and continual plot twists.

Sheila Berkowitz is directing the performance. Members of the production staff include Lois Bertram, Harlo Donelson, JoAnn Peters, Pam Shalley, Allen Shelley, Kim Smith, and Frank Wineinger.

Tickets for the performance are $8.00. Starting July 26 the Theatre Box Office will be open weekdays from 1:00-4:00 p.m. For further information call the Theatre at 660 465-2277.
