Community Garden Producing Despite Dry Conditions

In spite of the hot, dry weather the Community Garden is bearing fruit and producing fresh vegetables for the needs of the community. Recently, because of the weather, the green beans have stopped producing; however, the tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers and some squash are beginning to produce ripe fruit.

No pesticides or herbicides are being used on any of the plants in the garden.

"We welcome those in our community who would like to pick fresh produce for their families to eat or share with a neighbor or friend who is unable to get out," said pastor Dan Hite of the First Baptist Church in Memphis where the gardens are located. "We also are willing to take orders from seniors and members of our community who would have difficulty getting out to the garden."

Anyone who would like to help with watering, weeding and maintaining paths in the garden is welcome to join us in these efforts.

"Good fellowship can turn hard work into a pleasant and rewarding experience," Hite said.

The garden is located at the southeast corner of the property of the Memphis First Baptist Church along Weaver Ave. The Community Garden is a combination of community plots and private plots. To avoid picking produce from an individual's plot we ask that you please call Terri Monroe to receive instructions before picking produce. Also, please call Terri at (660) 341-9461 to place orders. For all other questions please call the Church office at 465-2060.

"Also, please pray for rain," Hite requested.
