City Announces Availability of Demolition Funds

A housing rehabilitation grant dating back to 2004 is continuing to assist the City of Memphis in cleanup efforts.

More than $400,000 was funded through a Community Block Development Grant as part of the federal Neighborhood Development Program, administered by the Missouri Department of Economic Development via the Northeast Missouri Regional Planning Commission.

Over the past several years, the funding has been utilized to rehab low and moderate income level housing. After completing the housing rehabilitation projects, the remaining grant funding will now turn towards demolition and cleanup projects in the City of Memphis.

On August 2nd, the City of Memphis announced the availability of demolition funds for residential use. Residents of the City of Memphis may apply at Memphis City Hall, 125 W. Jefferson, Memphis, Missouri between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, from now until August 31, 2012.

To qualify for the funding, participants will be required to make a 5% match of the funding. The property must be zoned residential and must have been vacant for at least one year. Proof of ownership will also be required. The demolition projects must be completed by November 1, 2012.

To insure the most efficient usage of the funds, the city will be handling the bid process for contractors for the demolition and cleanup services and awarding the contracts.

Recipients will be determined by a lottery drawing at the September 6, 2012 city council meeting at 6:30 p.m. in Memphis City Hall.

For more information call City Hall at 660-465-7285.

The City reserves the right to reject any and all applications.
