Local Zumbathon Charity Event to Benefit Scotland County Cancer Fund

Memphis Zumba Fitness instructors Laurie Ward, Sandra Swearingen and PJ Parker are co-hosting a Zumbathon Charity Event at the Scotland County Fitness Center, Saturday, November 3. Two other northeast Missouri instructors will also be assisting in the program: Brenda Ellis from Queen City and Jessie Pinson from LaPlata. This year, the proceeds of this event will go to the local Scotland County Cancer Fund. Residents of Scotland County who have medical documentation of currently undergoing cancer treatment can receive up to $1000 annually from this fund. Margaret Curry, Kim Nicoli, Chris Tinkle, Brenda Wilson and David Trueblood are the county contacts. The Zumbathon charity event will feature various Zumba fitness formats: including Zumba basic, Zumba toning, Zumbatomic (for ages 4-7 and 8-12) and Zumba Sentao. Anyone can do Zumba! Modifications and progressions can be made to accommodate all fitness levels. The music will play from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. however breaks will be built in and rest areas available. Water and healthy snacks will be provided. Numerous local businesses and individuals have donated items to be raffled off. There will also be several vendors set up as well. The doors will open at noon and close at 4 p.m. Advanced tickets are $10 and can be purchased by contacting Laurie Ward at 660-216-0345; Sandra Swearingen at 660-216-0643; or PJ Parker at 319-795-2718. Advance ticket sales will go into a special door prize drawing. Tickets are also available at the door for $10. If you have ever thought about trying Zumba, here is an opportunity to see what the latest exercise craze is all about. Physical activity is associated with reduced risk of cancers, especially of the colon and breast. Come participate, spectate, or just donate! Cancer has touched or will touch the lives of so many people and this is just one opportunity that you have to make a difference in the life of individuals from our county.
