School Board Receives Report From Preschool Research Committee

The Scotland County R-I Board of Education worked through a limited agenda of items at the November meeting.

The Board of Education met in regular session on Thursday, November 8, 2012. President George Koontz called the regular meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. with six members present. Dr. Tobler was absent.

The board received a report regarding the initial meeting of the Early Childhood Development Committee. The group met November 1st to discuss the potential of developing a preschool program through the SCR-I school district.

"Discussion centered on the type of program, facilities and needs," said Superintendent Dave Shalley.

The committee agreed to conduct a public needs survey and to reconvene on November 15th at 6:30 p.m.

Financial Update

Shalley presented an update on the district financial situation.

Revenues for the year to date are down $15,000 from last year and expenses compared year to date are up $25,000 the superintendent reported.

"This is a typical scenario for districts," he said. "We anticipate revenues to catch up when local dollars begin arriving in January. We are running below budgeted expenditures for the year by about five percent. Some unexpected expenditures could still develop."

After much discussion, the board voted 6-0 to discontinue charging admission to regular season contests. This does not include tournaments.

The board voted 6-0 to approve the following items on the Consent Agenda: October 11th Open Session Minutes; Procedural Evaluations for Co-Curricular by Mr. Bergeson, Elementary Guidance by Mrs. Fromm, Secondary Guidance by Mr. Bondurant; Updated Sub List; Surplus Property (A list of library books is available in the central office); Set Board Candidate Filing Dates for the 2013 election for the April 2, 2013.
