Hunter Hears Crash, Calls 911 From Tree Stand

A hunter in the tree stand Wednesday morning in rural Scotland County was listening for the footfalls of deer, but instead heard the screeching of tires followed by the sounds of an automobile accident.

A 911 call was placed by the deer hunter, and emergency service personnel were able to locate the scene of a one-vehicle accident on Route M, seven miles south of Memphis.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Matthew J. Neagle, 20, of Rutledge, was northbound on Route M in a 2004 Ford F150 truck when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve. The truck traveled off the right side of the roadway and went into a skid. The vehicle then traveled off the left side of the roadway, overcorrected and traveled down an embankment before impacting a ditch.

Neagle suffered minor injuries and was transported by Scotland County Ambulance to Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.

The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Lakeside Towing.

The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff's Office and the ambulance service.
