WILLIAM (BILL) ROSCOE COOK
(9/27/1928 - 2/26/2012)

William (Bill) Roscoe Cook, age 83, of Memphis, Missouri passed away peacefully on February 26, 2012 in the Dallas suburb of Allen, Texas surrounded by his three loving children. Bill was born September 27, 1928 in Downing, Missouri, the son of Leo and Jewel (Ketchum) Cook.

He married Lois (Matticks) Lawson in 1948 and to this union one daughter was born, Sue Jane Cook. He married Rosella Mathes in 1959 and to this union two sons were born, William Leo Cook and Scott Alan Cook. He married Mary (Onken) Eggleston in 1973 and the two lived on their farm just south of Memphis for the next 35 years. Once fully retired in 2008, they moved to Memphis and enjoyed their home on Maple Street.

Bill was a lifelong Scotland County resident and beloved by all that knew him. A farmer, and an independent contractor of agricultural related services, he custom combined, hauled lime and spread fertilizer to many farms in Scotland County and neighboring communities. As a result, he had an uncanny knowledge of where everyone in the county lived, how long they had been there, who lived there before, and other interesting tidbits.

Bill's treasures in life were his family and friends and the time he was able to spend with them. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and rarely missed an opportunity to be outdoors spending time with his buddies. A lifelong card player, he was a staple at pitch games at "The Club" (of which he was a charter member) earlier in life, as well as a regular on the "Scotland County Poker Tour" in his later years. The St. Louis Cardinals were Bill's team of choice throughout his life. He enjoyed watching Redbird games with his family and was fortunate enough to have attended games in all the Cardinal ballparks; most recently with his sons Bill and Scott and his grandson Evan in the new Stadium in 2009...."front row". He was blessed to have witnessed the Cardinals win the World Series in his final year as a fan and to see Albert Pujols dealt to the Angels at just the right time.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Mary, his parents, Leo and Jewel Cook, two brothers Leo Dale Cook and Robert Cook and his sister Evelyn (Cook) Ewing.

Bill is survived by his children, Jane Dodson of Albuquerque, New Mexico, William Cook of Boulder, Colorado and Scott and wife Pam Cook of Allen, Texas. Also surviving are grandsons Blake Cook and wife Tiffany, and Evan Cook of Allen, Texas, his stepson Mark Eggleston, step grandchildren Tiffany Link and Spencer Eggleston. Also surviving are his sister Joy (Cook) Nicoli, his Aunt Neva Henderson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials are suggested to the family of Kevin Woods to assist in his recovery from his recent injury and may be left at or mailed to Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri.

Memorial services were held Sunday afternoon, March 4, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis. Officiating the service was Pastor Jim Campbell.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
