DOYLE FRANKLIN GARR
(6/25/1923 - 3/22/2012)



Doyle Franklin Garr, 88, of rural Memphis, Missouri passed away Thursday morning, March 22, 2012, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri. The son of Clovie and Lillian Stockton Garr, he was born June 25, 1923 in Putnam County, Missouri.

He enlisted in the Army July 28, 1942 serving in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe being awarded 3 Bronze Stars, Combat Medal Badge, the Purple Heart and other campaign metals. He was then honorably discharged December 28, 1945.

On April 11, 1946 he married Helen Franklin in Polia, Kansas. They bought their farm in 1947 where they have lived ever since, except for three years when they moved to Indiana where he did carpentry work with his brother-in-law until they returned to their farm where he enjoyed farming and raising cattle.

One of the things he enjoyed besides being with his family was the flying lessons he received as he flew with Glenn Wiley in his small plane.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Larry Garr; one daughter, Bonnie Garr Bennett; two sisters, Mrs Evelyn Stults and Mrs. Rose Cornett; two brothers Durward and Sandy Garr; and two great-grandchildren, Tommy Dearing Jr. and Alyssa Mrozek.

Doyle is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen Garr of the home, two daughters, Donna Banks and her husband Fred of Norwalk, Iowa and Marilyn Doscher and her husband Dan of Memphis, Missouri; a son-in-law, Jerry Bennett of Keller, Texas; five grandchildren, Jeff Banks, Stacie Dearing, Tiffanie Mrozek, Larry and Jerrod Bennett; eight great-grandchildren, Brandon Garr, Ryan and Caitlin Banks, Sadie Dearing, Dylan Derek, and Erik Mrozek and Danny Doscher Jr. along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and many friends.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, Alzheimer's Foundation or the donors choice and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Funeral Services were held at the Payne Funeral Chapel Sunday, March 25, 2012, with Pastor David Barton, officiating. Pallbearers were Jeff Banks, Tom Dearing, Dan Doscher, Jerry Bennett, Jerrod Bennett, and Larry Bennett. Honorary bearers were Lane Hines, Patrick Hines, Danny Doscher Jr., Bruce Childress and Brian Mrozek. Music was provided by Sarah Myers pianist, and Angela Westhoff, soloist. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery, Scotland County, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
