LESLEY FERRIS SCHLEETER
(4/6/1942 - 9/14/2012)



Lesley F. Schleeter, 70, of Waverly, Tennessee, passed away Friday morning, September 14, 2012, at home from liver cancer under the care of hospice. Lesley was born at Moline Public Hospital, Moline, IL, on April 6, 1942 to the late Burns Arthur Schleeter, and Flornell Schleeter, who survives. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents O.L. and Edna Jones of Memphis, MO, and paternal grandparents William and Elizabeth Schleeter of Memphis, MO, and paternal uncle John (Garnet) Schleeter of Memphis, MO, maternal aunt Twila (Seward) Sims Humphrey of Geneseo, uncle Harold Jones of Salem, OR, and aunt Ada (Paul) Oliver of East Moline. Lesley graduated from United Township High School, East Moline, and entered the U.S. Navy for four years. He attained the rank of Second Class Petty Officer. While in the Navy, he helped with the recovery of one of the astronauts Gordon Cooper from Project Mercury in 1963. He worked for John Deere for 18 years. Lesley was Service Manager for Ford Motors, Waverly. He married Inez Box Jones January 1, 1982, and moved to Waverly, TN. He spent 30 years working on his Tennessee acreage, building a house, decks, walks, and stone walls; lumber-jacking and sawmilling; repairing boats, motorcycles, and tractors, and constructing a hybrid motorcycle/dune buggy for which the motor license department inspected and issued a VIN for it. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and reading. He is survived by his mother Flornell Schleeter of East Moline, IL; his wife Inez Schleeter of Waverly, TN; his son Rodney Schleeter of North Liberty, IA; his daughter Katrina Schleeter of East Moline, IL; stepsons David (Kathy) Jones of Waverly, TN; Dalton Jones of Moline, IL; stepdaughter Teresa (Brad) Merrill of Moline, IL; sister Sharon (Don) Jenkins of Worden, IL; brother Gary (Jo) Schleeter of East Moline, IL; numerous grandchildren; nieces Dana (Robert) Asher of O'Fallon, MO; Krissa (Robert) Lubben of Sunset Hills, MO; Leigh (Eric) Johnston of O'Fallon, MO; Brian (Paula) Schleeter of Celina, TX; Luann Schleeter of Mary Esther, FL; Ben Schleeter of Peru, South America; great-nieces Elisabeth and Katherine Johnston of O'Fallon, MO; and great-nephew Dillon Schleeter of Celina, TX. Visitation and Memorial Services for Lesley Schleeter were held Sunday, September 16 at the Humphreys County Funeral Home, Waverly, TN. Mr. Schleeter was cremated in accordance with his wishes. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice or to the family in care of the Humphreys County Funeral Home, 217 East Main Street, Waverly, TN 37185.
