RUSSEL DEAN MARTIN
(9/11/1943 - 9/28/2012)



Russel Dean Martin, 69, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012.

Russel was born on September 11, 1943, in Memphis, MO to Virgil and Marjorie (Weldon) Martin. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of American Legion Post #24, V.F.W. Post #2715, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Russel lived in McPherson, KS, for nearly 50 years. On July 27, 1984, he was united in marriage to Judy Jackson of Wichita, KS. Before retiring, Russel was the owner and operator of Martin Drapery. He also took great pride in being a stay-at-home dad to his children.

Russel is survived by his wife, Judith Martin of McPherson; children, Shannon Holland (Michael Moore) of Columbia, MD, Justin Martin of McPherson, KS, and Jennifer A. Martin (Chad Hostetler) of Kansas City, MO; one grandson, Gabriel Ethan Dean Martin of McPherson, KS; sisters, Marcia Irvin (Dave) of Kirksville, MO and Sherry Laws (LaVerne) of Downing, MO; and sister-in-law, Deanna Martin of McPherson, KS.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Dalbey, Vern, Rex, and Jay Martin, and sister, Sue Gaddis.

The funeral service was held Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Les Cantrell officiating. Burial with Military Honors was at Crestwood Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be given to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospitals in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 North Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
