GEORGE WILLIAM "BILL" EBLING
(5/21/1926 -10/1/2012)



George William "Bill" Ebling, Jr. of Gorin, MO, passed away October 1, 2012, at the age of 86, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, MO. The son of George William and Nettie Pearl Allen Ebling, Sr., he was born May 21, 1926 in the Arbela area.

Bill graduated from Memphis High School with the class of 1945 and afterwards he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, being stationed in the Philippine Islands.

On October 7, 1949 he married Mary Helen Shacklett in the Christian Church Parsonage in Memphis, MO and to this union three children were born: Larry George, Laura Ann and Lori Jan.

Bill's interests included the farm, raising cattle and row crops, hunting, visiting with his friends, and running around with his four-legged companion, Sassy. He was also a member of the American Legion and attended the Salem Christian Church of rural Memphis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Helen on Jan 2, 1994, his mother-in-law and father-in-law Frances and Ralph Shacklett, brothers: Hale, Clark and Kenneth Ebling, sisters; Thelma Harris and Lena Smith, sister and brother-in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his three children: Larry George Ebling and wife Vicki of Reeds Springs, MO, Laura Ann Shaw and husband Leon of Rutledge, MO, Lori Jan Howell and husband Gary of Gorin, MO, Grandchildren; Sally Ebling and husband Gary Dean of Memphis, MO, Scott Ebling of Edina, MO, Julie White and husband Jozef "Kyle" of Kahoka, MO, Jamie Shaw of Rutledge, MO and their family member, "Susie" Howell of Gorin, MO, Great-grandchildren: Ben and Claire Shannan of Memphis, MO; aunt, Madeline Shacklett and family of Ottumwa, IA; several cousins and Sassy, his loyal dog, along with a host of friends.

Memorials are suggested to the Gorin Cemetery Association and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Funeral services were held Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis with Pastor Mark Drummond officiating. Interment followed in the Gorin Cemetery with full Military Honors being provided by the Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958 of Memphis.

Pallbearers were Gene Bair, Curtis Huff, Mike Parrish, Kyle White, Lonnie Sears and Ben Shannan. Honorary pallbearers were Don Tague, Bill Roach, Larry Carroll, Kenny Hauk, Bob Franklin, Luke Hoover, Ralph Erickson, Richard Crawford and Dr. Larry Wiggins.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis, Missouri.
