J. CAROL HARRELSON

J. Carol Harrelson, 85, of Memphis passed away at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis October 31, 2012.

Carol was born December 15, 1926 in Snelling, California to Joseph and Ethel (Neighbor) East. She graduated from Merced High School and attended University of California - Berkley.

Carol married Bill Harrelson on August 8, 1966 in Milan, MO and to this union one child was born, Nancy.

Carol worked at Mello-Creme Do-nut Shop in Moline, IL and St. Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island, IL before moving to Memphis with her family in 1973. After moving to Memphis she was employed at National Garment Factory in Memphis and retired in 1996. Carol loved crocheting, reading, puzzles and caring for her assortment of animals, especially her cat. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Memphis and enjoyed talking with neighbors and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Luella Richberger as well as several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Carol is survived by her husband of 46 years, Bill, who resides at Scotland County Residential Terrace in Memphis; their daughter Nancy and her husband Matt Shearer of Rockville, MD; four daughters from a previous marriage, Johanna and her husband George Dieterich of Rosewall, TX, Karen Ward of Cape Coral, FL, Becky and her husband Bob Rickard of Jefferson City, MO and Gail and her husband Mike Pickett of Perham, MN. In addition she is survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by an older sister, Eleanor (John) Mulligan of San Jose, CA and younger brother David East, Sacramento, CA as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials were suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Memphis, the National Parks Conservation Association or American Stroke Foundation, and can be mailed to or left at the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 East Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555.

Visitation for Carol Harrelson was held Monday evening, November 5, 2012, at the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis from 4 to 7 P.M. At the conclusion we honored her wishes with cremation. Online condolences may be sent to the family by logging on to Payne's website at www.paynefuneralchapel.com.
