LEE OLIVER MANNING
(8/31/1925 - 11/11/2012)



Lee Oliver Manning, 87, of Burlington died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Great River Medical Center-Klein Center. Born August 31, 1925, Lee was the son of Jesse Francis and Nettie Gladys Gardener Manning. He married Virginia Lucille Lasley on October 8, 1944 in Newton, Iowa. He was a graduate of Lancaster Missouri High School. Lee worked as a production worker for General Electric, retiring in 1989. He worked part-time at Hy-Vee for the last twelve years. Lee had a love for square dancing, which he and his wife did for over fifty years. He was past president of the Iowa State Square and Round Dance Federation. Lee also enjoyed gardening. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Virginia Lucille; four children, Richard E. (Janet) Manning of Ocoee, Florida, Susan (David) Swanson of Crystal River, Florida, Cathy L. Moser, and Tom (Ella) Manning, both of Burlington, Iowa; ten grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one half brother. Local visitation will be 12:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 14th in Lunning Chapel, with the family receiving friends from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service for Lee will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 15th at Norman Funeral Home, 402 W. Washington St., Lancaster. Pastors Dean Benton, of Burlington, Iowa and Sonny Smyser, Lancaster will officiate. Family will receive friends from noon until time of services. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.
