Lady Tigers Welcomed Back From Break by State Champs

Hopefully the Lady Tigers got plenty of Christmas presents because upon returning from the holiday break, Scotland County received a not so nice gift from the schedule maker, a trip to Class 1 defending state champions at Marion County.

The unbeaten Mustangs made the return from Christmas less than jolly for SCR-I, which fell to Marion County 55-24 on January 3rd in Philadelphia. The Lady Tigers record fell to 5-5 on the season with the loss.

Kiley Frazier had a pair of hoops in the first period to help keep Scotland County close. The Lady Tigers trailed 12-6 at the end of the first period, having no answer for all-staters Randi Lee Plunkett and Jessica Redd who combined for eight points.

But it was Marion County's defense that was the difference maker. The Mustangs held SCR-I to a lone field goal in the second period. Courtney Jackson's two points were countered by 16 points from Marion County, which pushed to a 28-8 lead at the intermission.

Megan Creek and Jessica Morrow converted field goals in the third period, but Redd dominated the post play with eight points for Marion County, which outscored SCR-I 17-8 in the third period to extend the margin to 45-16.

Creek converted a three-point play in the fourth period and Morrow and Cali Holt added field goals but Marion County rolled to the 55-24 win.

Morrow and Frazier each finished with six points to top the SCR-I scorebook.

Marion County was led in scoring by Plunkett and Redd, each with 14 points. Kaelyn Spratt pitched in with 13 points.
