Lady Tigers Cannot Corral Unbeaten Mustangs in Tourney Title Game

Defending state champions Marion County remained undefeated on the season with a 56-25 victory over Scotland County in the title game of the North Shelby Tournament on January 21st.

The Mustangs took a 12-6 lead in the first period behind all-staters Randi Plunkett and Jessica Redd. Kiley Frazier came off the bench to score four of SCR-I's first six points.

The Lady Tigers stayed in the game at the free throw line, making seven of eight from the charity stripe in the second period.

But Plunkett poured in 10 points and Redd added five as the Mustangs extended the margin to 33-19 at the break.

The tough Marion County defense held SCR-I without a field goal in the third period. Plunkett was limited to just a pair of field goals but Redd had four points and Kaela Spratt added five points to help push the lead to 44-21.

The offense wasn't much better in the fourth quarter for Scotland County, as field goals by Megan Creek and Randi Slaughter accounted for all the scoring. Marion County rolled to the 56-25 win to improve to 12-0 on the year.

Scotland County (9-7) was led in scoring by Cali Holt with seven points. Frazier finished with five points.
