Stone Scorches Schuyler County For 29 Points

Harley Stone poured in a season-high 29 points as Scotland County rolled the Rams 74-52 in the opening round of the North Shelby Tournament on January 17th.

Scotland County opened up the offense early, erupting for 25 points in the first period to take a 10-point lead over Schuyler County. Three pointers from Stone, Jacob Blessing, and Drew Miller helped get the team off to a fast start. Stone had nine points during the first period.

The senior continued the heavy lifting in the second quarter. He and Brice Cowell hit three pointers as the Tigers pushed the margin to 41-25 at the intermission.

Cordie Kigar drilled a pair of three pointers in the third period and the Tigers continued to ride the hot hand of Stone, who had seven third-quarter points. The Rams outscored SCR-I 20-19 in the period, but SCR-I still maintained a 60-45 margin.

The Rams struggled offensively in the fourth period and were unable to take advantage of some late struggles at the free throw line for SCR-I. The Tigers made just two of eight free throws down the stretch. Stone kept the pressure on with six points and Andrew Mathes had a pair of field goals to make the final score 74-52.

Stone's big night helped Scotland County improve to 7-6 on the season. Kigar pitched in with 13 points and Mathes finished with 12 to help SCR-I advance to the semifinals versus Marion County.
