Tigers Send Seniors Out on Top With Win Over North Shelby

Drew Miller

Second chance points helped Scotland Count pick up a key conference victory Tuesday night despite a difficult night of shooting.

The Tigers converted just two of 14 three point attempts against North Shelby, but the Tigers grabbed 18 offensive rebounds en route to a 50-35 victory.

Harley Stone led the charge early. The senior forward had six points in the first period as the Tigers took a 10-6 lead.

The lead grew to 21-13 at the intermission as Stone and Andrew Mathes each had a pair of field goals in the second quarter.

The third period was all SCR-I. The Tigers poured in 20 points as Cordie Kigar and Drew Miller connected from behind the arc. Mathes continued to control the interior game. The senior center had seven points during the key stretch that saw Scotland County expand its lead to 41-25.

Mathes and Stone accounted for all nine points in the fourth period as SCR-I went on to the 50-35 Tri-Rivers Conference win.

Mathes finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead SCR-I, which improved to 9-11 on the year and 4-3 in conference play. Stone finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds. The senior's double-doubles were the key to the win. Miller finished with seven points as the team's three impending graduates celebrated senior night prior to the contest, their final regular season home game.

North Shelby (8-13, 2-4 TRC) was led in scoring by John Stoneburner with 10 points and Alan Trenhaile with eight points.
