Last Second Shot Breaks Lady Tigers' Hearts on Valentine's Day

Jessica Morrow

A last second shot by Elizabeth Linberger allowed North Shelby to break the hearts of Scotland County fans on Valentine's Day as the Lady Raiders escaped Memphis with a 34-32 victory.

SCR-I led most of the game, but struggled to knock down shots late, allowing North Shelby to make the second half rally.

Linberger scored all nine first quarter points for North Shelby as the visitors built a 9-6 lead in the first period.

The Lady Tigers rallied as Cali Holt knocked down a three pointer and Jessica Morrow added a pair of field goals to push the home team ahead 18-12 at the intermission. The Lady Raiders lone points of the second period came on a three pointer by Mercedes Nute.

Buckets by Morrow and Megan Creek were the lone shots to fall in the third period for SCR-I. The trademark defense kept Scotland County ahead 23-20 heading into the final period.

Scotland County continued to struggle finding the range from the perimeter. Creek and Kiley Frazier had field goals in the paint but North Shelby pulled even late in the contest before Linberger hit the game winner as time expired.

She finished with a game-high 17 points to lead the Raiders (7-12, 1-7 TRC) to their first league win of the year.

SCR-I (12-8, 3-4 TRC) struggled at the free throw line in the fourth period, missing four of seven from the charity stripe to leave the door open for the rally.

Morrow finished with 12 points to lead SCR-I in scoring. Holt and Creek each added six points.
