Defense Leads Lady Tigers To Win In District Opener

Defense had been the Lady Tigers trademark throughout the regular season, so it was only fitting that Scotland County continued the trend in the opening round of the Class 2 District 6 Tournament. SCR-I held Northeast (Cairo) High School to just eight second-half points en route to a 35-19 victory.

Senior Courtney Jackson led the offense with 11 points. Junior Megan Creek added 10 points as the duo outscored the Bearcats on the night. Scotland County improved to 16-9 on the season and advanced to the district semifinals to take on conference foe, Milan.

The Wildcats defeated Knox County 54-48. On the other side of the girls bracket it was top seed Putnam County dispatching Canton 58-37 and Marceline advancing with a 55-30 win over Schuyler County.

In the boys first round games, #1 seed Canton edged Schuyler County 54-44 while Putnam County upset Marceline 69-54. SCR-I fell to Knox County 46-35 and Cairo bested Milan 59-33.
