After splitting the regular season meetings, two conference rivals met on a much bigger court Thursday evening in Queen City, with a shot at a district title on the line.

While defense has been the calling card for Scotland County, it was Milan's efforts on that side of the ball that turned the tide in Favor of the Lady Wildcats who defeated SCR-I 38-31.

After trading the lead back and forth much of the first half, Milan was able to pull ahead 24-19 at the intermission.

Scotland County righted the ship, and opened the third period with an 8-0 run to jump ahead 27-24.

But a costly turnover to close the quarter allowed Milan to pull within one, and the Wildcats rode the momentum into the final period of play.

The Wildcats pushed the margin to 30-27 before a bucket by Jessica Morrow made it a one-point game. Milan responded with a pair of field goals before Morrow again converted in the paint to make the score 34-31 with timing running out on SCR-I's season.

Scotland County was unable to convert on the offensive end down the stretch and Milan put the game away with a perfect 4-4 performance at the free throw line to make the final score 38-31.

Scotland County closed out the season with a 16-10 mark. Jessica Morrow was the leading scorer with 10 points. Jordan Dunlap led Milan (18-8) with 13 points.

Milan and former SCR-I coach Andrea Dabney, went on to upset conference champions Putnam County (20-7) in the district championship game by a final of 50-29. The Lady Wildcats will advance to take on Clopton in the first round of the state playoffs.

In the boys bracket, Cairo defeated Knox County 64-57 to advance to play Canton, which edged Putnam County 90-81. Cairo upset Canton 64-57 to advance to claim the district title. Cairo (19-8) will advance to play Louisiana (16-11) in the first round of the state playoffs.
