Tigers Pound Putnam County Behind Kigar's Shutout

Cordie Kigar fires the pitch toward home plate during the Tigers 10-0 win over Putnam County.

Scotland County turned to its #3 starter on Wednesday night when Putnam County came to town, but the Tigers got a #1 performance. Cordie Kigar threw a one-hit shutout as SCR-I bested the Midgets 10-0 in five innings.

SCR-I scored three runs in the first inning and that proved to be all the scoring the team would need.

Zach Miller led off the game with a bunt hit and moved into scoring position on a hit by Kigar. He scored on a sacrifice fly by Drew Miller. After Andrew Mathes was hit by a pitch, Kigar crossed the plate on an RBI ground out by Ben Shannan. Mathes came all the way around to score on a pair of errant throws on the play, making it 3-0.

D. Miller and Shannan each added another RBI in the contest as the Tigers went ahead 9-0 before tallying the final run in walk-off fashion to end the contest by the 10-run rule in the bottom of the fifth.

Kigar notched the victory, holding the Midgets to one hit and three walks in five innings of work. The sophomore struck out nine.

Scotland County improved to 12-1 on the year. The Tigers will face Putnam County on May 7th to close out the conference season. SCR-I is 3-0 in Tri-Rivers Conference play with a May 3rd home game remaining versus North Shelby before traveling to Unionville May 7th for the finale.
