Tigers Close Out Regular Season With 5-3 Win Over Novinger

Harley Stone got a tune up for the district tournament, returning to the mound for his team's regular season finale after nearly two-weeks off due to an injury.

The senior was sidelined following surgery, but was able to pitch seven solid innings on May 10th at Novinger, leading his Tigers to a 6-3 victory allowing Scotland County to close out the year with a 14-1 mark.

The Tigers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Drew Miller cracked a two-run home run.

But the Wildcats responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame courtesy of a couple of SCR-I errors. Novinger loaded the bases with a hit and a pair of walks. Back-to-back errors allowed the three runs to score.

Scotland County tied the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth when Andrew Mathes homered.

The Tigers pulled ahead for good in the top of the seventh. Miller doubled to lead off the inning. Mathes followed with a base on balls and both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Stone reached on an error to load the bases. Jacob Blessing delivered a two-run single to plate the go ahead runs.

After the rocky third inning, Stone kept Novinger at bay the final four innings to record the victory. He allowed four hits and four walks and also hit a batter. The senior struck out 14 in the complete game effort, allowing just three runs, all unearned.

Miller went 3-4 at the plate with a double, a homer, two runs scored and two RBIs. Mathes was 1-3 with a home run, a walk, and a pair of runs scored and Blessing was 1-4 with two RBIs.
