Tigers Earn Spots on All-Conference, All-District Baseball Teams

For the second consecutive year, SCR-I's Ben Shannan and Schuyler County's Jordon Wheeler shared the Tri-Rivers Conference MVP honors.

By Brock Bondurant
The Tri-Rivers Conference champions of baseball, Scotland County Tigers, claimed plenty of spots on the all-conference and all-district teams.

The senior quartet of Ben Shannan, Drew Miller, Andrew Mathes, and Harley Stone were each given 1st team all-conference honors while sophomore Cordie Kigar was awarded to the 2nd team.

For the second straight year, talented pitcher/shortstop, Ben Shannan was named Co-MVP of the conference with Schuyler County hurler Jordon Wheeler. The two shared this distinction after their 2011 seasons as well with Shannan leading his Tigers to two conference titles in both seasons and Wheeler giving his Rams two district titles during that same span. Shannan was 7-0 on the mound, surrendering just 29 hits and striking out 82 batters in 47 innings of work. He also batted .385 with 2 home runs in his final year as a Scotland County Tiger.

Tiger representatives on the all-district 1st team include Shannan and Drew Miller. Stone, Mathes, and Kigar landed on the 2nd team, and freshman Tyler Buford garnered a 3rd team honor.

The 2012 Tigers became back-to-back Tri-Rivers Conference champions under the direction of first year head coach, Danny Burns. He will come back to lead the Tigers in 2013, giving SC baseball its first coach to return for a second year.
