TRGC Hosts Keith's Cafe Two-Man Calcutta Tourney
A total of 21 teams participated in the Keith's Cafe two-man calcutta golf tournament held at Timber Ridge Golf Course in Memphis on Sunday, August 5th.
The teams played nine holes in the morning round before breaking for lunch at the calcutta auction. Teams were divided into three flights based on the morning scores. The golfers returned to the course to compete in the 18-hole calcutta, adding that to the opening round scores to create an overall tournament score for the event's 27 holes.
The team of Mark Drummond and Marcus Shalley set atop the leader board after the opening nine, carding a six-under-par round of 28. That was one stroke ahead of the field in the championship flight.
The Memphis duo had to settle for second place in the calcutta, carding a 57 in the afternoon rounds. The team of Steward and Buxman won the calcutta with a score of 56, which was 12 under par. Drummond and Shalley were second with a 57. The two teams tied for first place in the tournament, with a 27-hole score of 85. The team of Horner and Brinkley was third in the championship tourney with a score of 88.
The A flight title went ot Corvin Drummond and Andy Boyer. They led wire-to-wire, with an opening round of 31. The duo shot a 59 to win the calcutta, and took tops in the tourney as well with a total score of 90. The team of Brandon Garnett and JR Scobee finished tied for second in the Calcutta with the team of Bolden and Williams, with scores of 60. They also tied for second in the tournament overall with scores of 93. The team of Dave Shalley and Mike Frazier shot a 93 overall to also tie for second in the tourney. They had an opening round 32 followed up by a 61 in the calcutta.
The B flight victories went to the team of Shirey and Moon. The two golfers shot a 64 to win the clacutta after an opening round of 35. They also won the overall tournament with a score of 99. The team of Zach McBee and Kelly Cooley was second in the calcutta with a 65 and finished tied for second in the tourney with the team of Smith and Smith, with a score of 100.
The tourney also featured a skins contest. The team of Kevin Small and McCullah one half the prize pool with a skin, the lone eagle of the day on hole number 4. Dave Shalley and Mike Frazier won the other skin with a birdie on hole number 8 in the morning round.
