Power, Pitching Help SCR-I Overcome Tough Fielding Night

While the glove work was less than spectacular, Scotland County was able to overcome Milan on Tuesday night behind a power bat and another strong pitching performance.

Megan Creek worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the first inning created by three SCR-I errors. The senior hurler allowed just one unearned run on the night despite seven errors behind her.

The Lady Tigers got all the offense they needed in the bottom of the first. After back-to-back singles by Creek and Randi Slaughter opened the frame, Bethany Rader crushed a three-run homer to put Scotland County on top 3-0.

Milan notched its lone tally in the top of the fourth courtesy of an error and a two-out double.

SCR-I got the run right back in the bottom of the inning. Olivia Harris led off with a single. Courtesy runner Miranda Holland moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Shaye Wright and crossed the plate courtesy of a Milan error.

Scotland County added an insurance run in the sixth inning when Brieanna Priebe led off with a base hit. She scored on another Milan error to make the final margin 5-1.

Creek again worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth en route to the victory. She allowed just three hits and one walk in seven innings of work while striking out 11.

Rader was 2-4 at the plate with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Creek was 2-4 with a run scored.

SCR-I improves to 7-3 on the season and 2-0 in the Tri-Rivers Conference with the victory.
