Lady Tigers Take 3rd Place at Schuyler County Tournament
Novinger No Match for SCR-I in Tourney Opener
Scotland County sent 15 batters to the plate in a decisive third inning en route to a 14-3 victory over Novinger in the opening round of the Schuyler County Tournament on Saturday, September 22nd in Lancaster.
SCR-I went ahead 3-0 in the first. Bethany Rader crushed a home run to start the scoring. Miranda Holland was hit by a pitch. She stole second and then came in to score when Hailey Dial reached on an error. Another Novinger miscue allowed Dial to cross the plate.
Megan Creek made it 4-0 in the second when she singled and came around to score on a series of passed balls and a wild pitch.
The Lady Tigers took advantage of five Novinger errors in the third inning to plate 10 runs. Creek and Rader delivered key base hits to drive in runs.
Creek picked up the win on the mound, allowing no runs on one hit and two walks in three innings of work while striking out six. Brieanna Priebe took over in relief and worked two innings, surrendering three unearned runs on one hit and two walks while fanning two.
Rader drove in four runs going 2-4 at the plate. Creek, Randi Slaughter and Holland all had two hits apiece to help the Lady Tigers secure their fifth straight win and improve to 9-3 on the year.
Schuyler Rallies in Final At Bat to Best SCR-I
After a huge rally in the fifth inning, Scotland County looked poised to advance to the championship of the Schuyler County Tournament, knocking off the host team in the process. Unfortunately for SCR-I, the Lady Rams had other plans, rallying for two runs in the sixth to top the Lady Tigers 6-5.
Schuyler County took advantage of a pair of Scotland County errors to plate single runs in the first and second innings.
Megan Creek relieved Bethany Rader in the fourth and retired the side in order. But the Lady Rams tacked on a pair of runs in the top of the fifth to make it 4-0.
SCR-I erased that deficit in the fifth. Hailey Dial started the rally with a base hit. Olivia Harris singled before Katie Howard loaded the bases with a two-out base hit. Back-to-back errors by Schuyler County allowed three runs to score. Rader then delivered a double to plate Creek and Randi Slaughter to make it 5-4.
Schuyler County came right back to retake the lead in the sixth inning and held on for the 6-5 win.
Creek took the loss on the mound, allowing four runs in three innings of work. She surrendered five hits and a walk while striking out two. Rader gave up two unearned runs in three innings of work. She allowed one hit and two walks while fanning one.
Lady Tigers Edge Milan 5-3 in Extra Innings
As if it hadn't been a long enough day for the Scotland County softball program on Saturday at the Schuyler County Tournament, SCR-I had to go extra innings to secure the 5-3 victory in the third place game.
SCR-I went ahead 1-0 in the first before Milan knotted the score 1-1 in the third with an unearned run off Bethany Rader.
The rollercoaster ride went back to SCR-I in the top of the sixth inning when Hailey Dial tripled and came in to score to make it 2-1.
Milan roared right back with two more unearned runs to pull ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
SCR-I tied the score in the seventh and forced extra innings after leaving the bases loaded. Katie Howard scored the tying run after singling and crossing the plate on a double by Megan Creek.
International tie-breaker rules were used, placing the last batter from the seventh inning on second base.
Dial came in to score on a double by Brieanna Priebe to break the tie. Priebe scored when Shaye Wright reached on an error to make it 5-3.
Randi Slaughter kept the score right there when she gunned down a runner at the plate after a Milan single to center field.
Rader went all eight innings to notch the victory. She allowed three unearned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out 10.
Wright was 2-4 to lead the offense. Rader and Priebe both were 1-4 with two RBIs.
SCR-I improved to 10-4 on the season.
