Lady Tigers Blank Brashear, Avenge 2011 District Loss

After watching their season come to a close last year in an upset loss to Brashear in the district semifinals, the Lady Tigers took care of business on Friday night in Edina, blanking Brashear 2-0 to advance to the district championship.

SCR-I jumped on top 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning. Randi Slaughter singled and stole second. Bethany Rader reached on an error that allowed the run to score. Hailey Dial followed with a single, but Brashear was able to limit the damage to a lone tally.

Rader worked out of trouble in the top of the third, striking out the last two batters with runners on first and second.

The junior was nearly unhittable, striking out 15 on the night.

Scotland County extended the lead to 2-0 in the third. Megan Creek singled and stole second. She moved into scoring position on a base hit by Slaughter before a ground out by Rader plated the run.

SCR-I threatened in the sixth after hits by Brieanna Priebe and Shaye Wright, but failed to score.

That proved immaterial, as Rader closed out the shutout. She surrendered just two hits and two walks while hitting a batter.

Creek and Slaughter both went 2-3 at the plate with a run scored. Rader was 0-2 but recorded both RBIs.
