Lady Tigers Bounce Bevier 50-28 in Tourney Opener

Scotland County has become a fixture at the top of the Novinger tournament bracket, and the Lady Tigers proved they once again deserved the honor.

SCR-I bounced Bevier 50-28 in first round tourney action on Monday evening.

Randi Slaughter drilled a pair of three-pointers and had eight first period points as Scotland County rushed out to an 18-4 advantage. Megan Creek and Bethany Rader each had a pair of field goals in the early run.

Alexis Dodge came off the bench to score five points in the second period as the lead grew to 29-13 at the break.

The Wildcats came out of the locker room with a flourish, as Beth Ashenfetler hit a pair of three-pointers. That helped #8 seed Bevier trim the margin to 36-23 with eight minutes to play. Hailey Dial connected on a three pointer and Megan Creek had a pair of field goals that helped Scotland County hold on to the lead.

Rader took over in the fourth period. The junior center had eight points down the stretch as SCR-I outscored Bevier 14-5 in the final quarter to post the 50-28 win.

Rader finished with 16 points to lead all scorers. Slaughter and Creek each pitched in with 10 points as SCR-I improved to 2-0.

The win sets up a semifinals matchup against #4 seeded La Plata on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
