Rader's Buzzer Beater Sends Lady Tigers into Finals
A shot at a fifth consecutive tournament title for Scotland County nearly slipped away in the final seconds of Wednesday night's semifinals at the 70th annual Novinger tournament.
But a buzzer beater by Bethany Rader sent the Lady Tigers on to their fifth straight tourney finals as Scotland County held off La Plata 38-36.
The top seeded Tigers rolled through the tourney opener, but found the sailing much more difficult against a tough Lady Bulldogs defense.
The Lady Tigers led 28-22 heading into the fourth period of the defensive battle. La Plata tied up the score at 28-28 with 5:49 left to play and the two teams locked horns down the stretch, trading defensive stands.
Rader sent the Tigers faithful home happy when she tracked down an offensive rebound on the right side of the lane and turned and drained the long jumper, just inside the three-point line as time ran out.
The junior forward led Scotland County (3-0) with 11 points. Megan Creek finished with eight points and Jessica Morrow finished with seven points.
La Plata's Taylor Snodgrass finished with 12 points to lead all scorers.
