Van Buren County Hands Lady Tigers Second Straight Loss

After opening the year 7-0, Scotland County dropped its second straight game, falling to Van Buren County 44-34 in a Saturday night contest in Memphis.

SCR-I went ahead 13-12 in the first period, but was unable to mount much offense the rest of the night. Randi Slaughter nailed two three-pointers in the game's first eight minutes and Jessica Morrow had a couple of field goals.

Katie Howard's three-pointer was the lone field goal of the second period for Scotland County as Van Buren used an 11-7 run to pull ahead 23-20 at the half. Megan Creek and Shaye Wright each had a pair of free throws to keep the contest close.

Switching ends did little to improve the Lady Tigers shooting. SCR-I's lone field goal of the third period was produced by Bethany Rader. The junior center added four free throws that actually helped SCR-I trim the deficit to 29-27 with just eight minutes to play.

Kaitlyn Johnson helped Van Buren pull away late. She hit a pair of three pointers in the fourth period, giving her five on the night. Hannah Haynes added six points down the stretch as the Lady Warriors closed out the game with a 15-7 run to win 44-34.

Rader finished with nine points to top the scorebook for Scotland County (7-2). Morrow had eight points and Slaughter finished with six points.

Haynes led all scorers with 18 points for Van Buren County.
