City to Host Spring Cleanup in April

The Memphis city sanitation department will be hosting a special spring cleanup in April. Customers of the city's trash collection service will have the opportunity to exceed the standard four-can daily limit for special pickups scheduled for the last two Wednesdays of the month.

Residents on the west side of town will have a special spring cleanup pickup on April 17th. The east side of town will have its collection date on Wednesday, April 24th.

In addition to the collection dates, a 40-yard dumpster will be available in the parking lot north of the Memphis fire station from April 17th through the 24th. The dumpster will be available for city residents as part of the spring cleanup. Patrons are asked to use the alley way east of the fire station to enter and exit the site to ensure access to the fire station in case of an emergency.

Household items to be collected will include couches, chairs, tables, carpet (only in 4ft. sections and bundled), barbecue grills (propane tank removed), large toys, mattresses (must be kept dry), televisions, microwaves, and small kitchen appliances. All items are limited in weight terms to "what two men can carry." The list of items NOT accepted for the bulk collection includes yard waste, batteries, chemical or liquids such as paint, gas and oil, car parts and demolition or remodeling materials.

The city is also in the process of establishing an appliance collection service. Individuals with appliances for disposal can contact city hall at 465-7285 to be placed on the pickup list for the free service.
