Community Players' Sound of Music Performances to Begin May 29th



Cast members Trinity Davis, Cole Tippett and Tom Cotton go through one of the musical numbers in The Sound of Music during practice at the Memphis Theatre on May 11th.

The Memphis Community Players' production of The Sound of Music by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II will be held May 29, 30, 31, and June 1, at 7:30 p.m. at the Memphis Theatre. The performance is presented through special arrangement with R&H Theatricals in New York.

The musical originated with the book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp and contains many popular songs, including "Edelweiss", "My Favorite Things", "Climb Ev'ry Mountain", "Do-Re-Mi as well as the title song. The story takes place in Austria during the late 1930's just before annexation of Austria with Nazi Germany.

Cole and Lindsay Tippett will take the leads as Captain Georg von Trapp, a veteran Austrian navy captain, and Maria Rainer, a young Austrian woman studying to be a nun. The von Trapp children will be played by Natalie Miller (Liesl), Slade McAfee (Friedrich), Sadie Davis and Ariel Quenneville (Louisa), Katie Feeney (Kurt), Micah Cooley (Brigitta), Jaden McAfee (Marta), and Hannah Feeney (Gretl).

Tom Cotton will portray Max Detweiler, friend of the Captain and Baroness Elsa Schroeder played by Trinity Davis. Schelle Cooley will appear as Mother Abbess, head of Nonnberg Abbey. Grace LaRose, Teresa Cotton, and Lisa Blake are other nuns serving at the abbey. The nun's chorus includes Sheila Berkowitz, Lynnette Dyer, Anna Hirner, Sarah Myers, Lois Quenneville, Connie Sargent, Jan Slayton, Carol Trump, Caroline Trump, Brooke Wineinger, and Tara Yarbrough.

Other members of the cast include Elijah Cooley, Jeff Davis, Harlo Donelson, Joe Fulk, Mikel Harvey, Brent Karhoff, Irene Kazwara, Jon Wullbrandt and contestants Christina Olakowski, Clara Davis, Kendra Middleton, and Brooke Smith.

Sheila Berkowitz is directing the performance. Lori Fulk is music director and Michael Fulk is the accompanist and choreographer.

Mary Ann Kirkpatrick, JoAnn Peters, Debbie Seamster, Pam Shalley, and Kim Smith are members of the production staff.

Tickets for the performance are $10.00. The Box Office will open to the public on Wednesday, May 22, with hours from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
