Hospital Celebrating National EMS Week May 19th - 25th

The Scotland County Ambulance service came to Memphis Head Start this week to reinforce to the kids that the ambulance is not a scary place if they have to ride in one. Paramedic Jason Moss took the kids inside and ran the lights and horn for the kids.

The Scotland County Hospital Ambulance Service is staffed with EMTs & EMT-Paramedics. and utilizes type 3, heavy duty, all weather, modular trucks, featuring: pre-hospital advanced life-support systems, including AED's & 12 lead ALS monitors, the latest pre-hospital intubation systems, plus pre-hospital ALS medications and other technologies & equipment, for acute in-field, pre-hospital medical & trauma emergencies.

Emergency Crews are on call 24/7 and have the capability to form additional search & rescue teams upon demand.

During the 70's the Emergency Medical Services System (EMS), was voted upon by congress. The year following, President Gerald R. Ford signed the EMS System into law and was the first to proclaim "Emergency Medical Services Week" in 1973, and America adapted what was referred to as EMS & First Responders.

We take this opportunity to recognize the challenging role that our own First Responders, EMS Crews, Fire & Rescue, county & state law enforcement officers, juvenile officers, conservation officers, plus emergency city and county crews of all kinds, face each-and-every day on a 24-7 basis, without reprieve to save lives, and improve the health, safety and well-being of our Northeast Missouri community. Working in these chosen fields, they are responsible for, and respond to just about anything imaginable, and some which aren't.

Along with the Scotland County Medical Corps, the Scotland County Health Department, and the Scotland County Hospital Emergency Department, the around-the-clock challenge in our rural area does not go unanswered. Each year many peoples' lives are rescued or prevented from further harm in our rural community only because of this group of very dedicated professionals.

They constantly work together and strive for a "seamless" response to search and rescue, disasters, and public health emergencies," whenever they arise.

To mark this yearly event, the county and state individuals listed above are invited to the Scotland County EMS BBQ to be held on Thursday, May 23 starting at 12:00 noon.

Other events for National EMS Week include: May 20th tours of ambulances at local day cares and schools; May 21st 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cookies at Casey's with free cookies and blood pressure checks; May 22nd blood pressure checks at the nutrition site 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; May 24th EMS Appreciation Day celebration 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. cup cakes and punch in the SCH dining room.
