Wittstock Will Defend Title in Final Amateur MMA Fight
Arbela native Carl Wittstock (left) will be making his final appearance as an amateur mixed martial arts fighter when he steps into the ring Saturday night in Burlington, IA. Wittstock will be defending his Iowa Challenge Championship belt in a championship bout versus undefeated Bobby Downs.
For the final time as an amateur, Arbela resident Carl Wittstock will be climbing into the ring to defend his title as Iowa Challenge Champion in the lightweight (146-155 lb.) division.
Wittstock will toe the line versus Bobby Downs in the championship bout at the Extreme Challenge 228 to be held in Burlington, IA on Saturday, August 3rd. The nights action will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Memorial Auditorium at 200 N. Front Street.
The local MMA combatant will headline a full lineup of contests that will also feature a rematch between Jesse Nunez and Parnell Davis. Special guests in attendance will include UFC contender Robbie Lawler as well as former UFC champions Tim Sylvia and Jens Pulver.
Wittstock holds a 9-8 record in mixed martial arts action. The 27-year-old fighter is coming off a victory May 11 over James Keiper at the Iowa Challenge 85.
His opponent Downs owns a 2-0 record.
