Downing Girl Killed in Crash Near Lancaster 2011
A nine-year-old Downing girl was killed and her mother seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident on Highway 136 near Lancaster at 1:20 p.m. on August 12th.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Ember S. Baker, 33, was eastbound on Highway 136 in a 1993 Lincoln Town Car when she lost control of the vehicle and began to slide. the car ran off the left side of the roadway where it a struck a tree.
A passenger in the vehicle, Cheyenne N. Bumgardner, the daughter of the driver, was fatally injured in the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene by Schuyler County Coroner Doug Norman.
Baker sustained serious injuries. She was transported to Scotland County Hospital by Schuyler County Ambulance.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Schuyler County Sheriff's Office, first responders, and the Schuyler and Scotland County ambulance services.
Neither victim was wearing a seatbelt, according to investigators. This marked the 10th fatality of 2013 in the Highway Patrol's Troop B region.
