Investigation Continues into Inmate's Death
The investigation continues in the death of an inmate last week in the Scotland County Jail.
Scotland County Sheriff Wayne Winn on Friday indentified the deceased as 27-year-old Nathaniel S. Huffman, of Floirs, IA.
Jailers discovered an unresponsive Huffman on Sunday morning, August 18th. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Winn, who is acting county coroner.
At the request of the sheriff's office, an investigation into the death is being headed up by the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC).
As of Monday, August 26th, the DDCC had not released any findings in the investigation. An autopsy was scheduled for August 20th, but no results have been made public.
Huffman was being held in the Scotland County Jail on a Van Buren County, IA, warrant and was awaiting an extradition hearing that had been scheduled for August 19, 2013.
