Memphis Man Killed in Fiery Crash on Route D
A Memphis man died in a fiery crash on Route D in Scotland County on Wednesday morning.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Brian D. Mallett, 44, was westbound on Route D, nine miles southwest of Memphis when the 1994 Buick LeSabre he was driving ran off the right side of the roadway at a high rate of speed and impacted a bridge railing head on. The vehicle was fully engulfed by fire.
Sheriff Wayne Winn pronounced the driver deceased at 9:06 a.m. The body was transported to Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
The Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Scotland County Sheriff's Office, Scotland County Ambulance Service, Scotland County Fire and Rescue and the Missouri Department of Transportation.
The vehicle sustained total damage and was removed from the scene by Lakeside Towing.
The accident marked the 14th fatality of 2013 in the Patrol's Troop B region.
