Wyaconda to Celebrate 125th Birthday with Fall Festival

Everyone is invited to attend the Wyaconda Fall Festival and 125th Birthday Celebration Saturday, September 7th. There will be activities for young and old.

The day starts with the baby show at 9:00 in front of the sponsor business, Froggie's Bar and Grill. The Prince & Princess and Queen Contests will follow. You do not have to be a Wyaconda resident to participate.

Power Wheels races will start at 10:30 a.m., sponsored by Bob and Lori Fletcher. Knisley Trucking and Big Bri's Restaurant will sponsor the Kiddie Tractor Pull at 11:30 a.m.. The tractor pull will be organized by the Humes' family. The races and tractor pull will be on Main Street in front of the Baptist Church.

Lunch will be available at Big Bri's Restaurant and Froggie's Bar and Grill. There will also be a snack stand with goodies such as popcorn, snow cones, cotton candy, and hot dogs, sponsored by Tague Welding/Mike and Tammy Tague and manned by the Gorin Baptist Church Youth Group.

Entries of all kinds are needed for the parade. The theme is "Happy 125th Birthday Wyaconda". Line-up will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the old Wyaconda School parking lot area. The parade will begin at 1:00 p.m.. All entrants must fill out a registration form before entering the lineup. Ribbons will be given to the winners in each category. From 2:00 to 3:00 there will be free carnival games for the kids in front of the Baptist Church, as well as some competition games for kids and adults. Lynn Daniels will also be performing accordion music and clowning.

At 3:00 p.m., there will be a time capsule opening ceremony in front of Centennial Park. Items from the time capsule will be on view in the Community Building. Anyone wanting to put an item in the new time capsule should bring it in a small sealable container or plastic bag. The committee from 25 years ago will be honored. State Senator Brian Munzlinger will be on hand to read a resolution from the state legislature. Volunteers who helped establish the Wyaconda ballpark will also be honored.

Cow chip bingo and raffle winners will be announced at 4:00. Free prize raffle giveaways will also be announced throughout the day. Sign up at the information table for those prizes.

A fish fry sponsored by the Peoples' Bank of Wyaconda and Kahoka will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 at the Community Building. Musical entertainment during this time will be sponsored by Helena Chemical Company. Lonnie Erwin will entertain from 4:00 to 5:00, and from 5:00 to 6:00 will be the Brothers' and Sisters' musical group.
