Website Upgrade Switches SCR-I to Cyberschool
The address is the same, but Scotland County R-I School District has received a major upgrade, virtually. The district's website, www.scotland.k12.mo.us, recently underwent a total overhaul. In October, SCR-I unveiled the new information portal for students, parents, faculty and staff as well as the entire community.
The district partnered with Cyberschool, an award winning website design platform created by IES, Inc. of Bakersfield, California to produce the new site.
"We are hoping the new design will help draw more traffic to the website for information regarding what is going on in our school system," said Superintendent Ryan Bergeson. "We believe the new format is more user friendly whether you are a first time guest or a regular visitor."
Cyberschool's platform is designed to be open, flexible, and modular. With fill-in-the-blank format and front-end-editing that works similar to any word processing package, the programming makes creating, updating and modifying web pages quick and easy.
Bergeson stressed that this was a key component of the transition.
"We want to make sure our staff is keeping the content of the website current, updating it with new information as soon as possible," he said. "The new design has made the website not only more user friendly for visitors but also for our staff as well who will be responsible for posting the material visitors are searching for."
That content will include the school calendar as well as news on cancellations and early dismissals. Guests can find out more about the Booster Club, Parents as Teachers (PAT) and many other school-oriented community groups.
The high school portion of the website features reference material for the student handbook as well as secure access to check student grades and links to the Study Island practice and research program. Viewers can also find out more about the yearbook, athletics, available scholarships and can check out the school menu.
The elementary school portion of the site features classroom supply lists as well as access to the guidance counselor programming and the library.
Other features of the district website include access to school board meetings and a directory of contact information for the staff.
The website also offers valuable tools for faculty and staff. A number of software guides are available through the website, which also features links to common paperwork required by the district, such as requisition forms.
"With a number of links to other community information, news and the weather, we are hoping folks will want to make the SCR-I webpage their home site, where they start off each day finding out what is going on at SCR-I and in the community," said Bergeson.
