Stolen Car Recovered in Iowa
A vehicle stolen in the city of Memphis in early October was recovered in Mt. Sterling, IA and a Memphis man is in custody for the theft.
According to the Memphis Police Department, T.J. Engelbrecht, 27, was taken into custody on October 16th and has been charged with the class C felony of tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree.
According to court documents, a 2008 Chevrolet Impala was reported stolen by owners Anna Buckallew and Darrin Cochran. The vehicle reportedly was taken from a residence on East Monroe Street overnight on October 1st.
Information was received by investigators that the vehicle was located in Mt. Sterling, IA near A.J.'s Bar & Grill. The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office verified the car's location.
The information also identified Englebrecht as a suspect in the case and following an investigation a warrant was issued for his arrest on October 16th.
He is being held in the Scotland County Jail on a $25,000 cash only bond.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on October 30th in Scotland County Circuit Court before Judge Karl DeMarce.
