William Arthur "Bud" Garrett, 83, Memphis, Missouri died Friday, January 25, 2013, at the Scotland County Hospital in Memphis.

He was born October 28, 1929, in Milton, Iowa to Arthur Samuel and Jessie Lucille Kittle Garrett.

Bud grew up in the Milton area and was a graduate of Milton High School, Class of 1948. He married Ila Jean McIntosh on June 6, 1948 and to this union two children were born. Bud operated a gas station in Milton several years before he and Ila Jean moved to a farm near Memphis where they lived for many years, working with livestock and raising crops. He also worked at the Pepsi plant in Memphis for several years and at the sale barn.

He was a member of the Memphis First Christian Church where he served as a deacon and sat on the board of directors. He also served as a board member for the rural fire department and the Memphis Nutrition Site.

Bud was especially proud of his grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed attending their school activities and sports events.

He is survived by a daughter, Sherryll Norton, of Fairfield, Iowa; a son, Mark D. Garrett and his wife, Elizabeth, of Milton, Iowa; four grandchildren: Shawn Norton and his wife, Viki, of Charlottesville, Virginia; Courtland Garrett, Pedrick Garrett and Treygar Garrett, all of Milton, Iowa and two great- grandchildren: Kadie Norton and Abbie Norton of Charlottesville, Virginia. Other survivors include a sister, Peggy Shepherd and her husband, Bob, and a brother, Albert Garrett, all of Bloomfield, Iowa; a brother-in-law, George Combs, Sacramento, California, three sisters-in-law, Darlene and Donna Garrett of Bloomfield, Iowa and Jo Garrett of Eldon, Iowa; nieces, nephews, a special friend of Bud and Jean, Ruth Speer and many other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and three brothers: N.C. "Tiny" Garrett, Larry Garrett and Wayne Garrett and two sisters-in-law Margaret Combs and Norma Garrett.

Visitation opened at noon on Monday, January 28, 2013, at the Memphis Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 29th at 11 A.M. at the funeral home with Brother Larry Smith and Mike Cantril, Deacon, officiating. Music was provided by Lori Fulk, vocalist, and Joe Fulk, accompanist. Burial followed the service in Memphis Cemetery. Casket bearers were Randy Garrett, Steve Garrett, Don Garrett, Doug Garrett, Darren Garrett, Kevin Garrett, Jim Garrett, Scott Shepherd, Ron Moore, Bryan Gravett and Derek Hugen.

To honor Bud's memory, a memorial may be made to the Scotland County Senior Center and may be left at or mailed to Memphis Funeral Home, 378 South Market Street, Memphis, Missouri 63555.
