Jeanette L. Adams, 88, of Overland Park, KS, formerly of Memphis, MO, passed away Friday morning, August 2, 2013, at Stratford Commons Assisted Living facility in Overland Park, KS. The daughter of Harley and Flossie Black, she was born on November 1, 1924, in Rutledge, MO.

Jeanette graduated from Rutledge High School and went to work in Fort Madison, IA for the Sheaffer Pen Company. She married Willis Junior Adams on November 11, 1946 and they had two children. She was a housewife for many years in Memphis, MO. The family moved to Independence, MO in 1960 where she later went to work for Western Electric. In 1980, she and Willis moved back to Memphis, where she remained until 2002 when she moved to the Kansas City area to be closer to her children. In 2005, she moved into Stratford Commons Assisted Living where she remained until she passed away. During her life she enjoyed raising her family, maintaining her home, cooking, baking, fishing, and, later in life, deer hunting with her son-in-law. Jeanette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother (Leon), sister (Marguerite), and grandson (Landis).

She is survived by her daughter, Pat Van Dyke and husband Don of Kansas City, KS; son, Jerry and wife Alreda of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Christy Van Dyke and Angelynn Warren; and great-grandchildren, Timberley Allen, Larissa and Kyler Presley, and Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to either Alzheimer's Foundation or the donors' choice and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 5, 2013 at Maple Hill Funeral Home, Kansas City, KS.

A graveside service was held on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at the Lawn Ridge Cemetery in Memphis, MO with Brother Jack Sumption officiating.

Local arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis.
