CYNTHIA ANN (VEERMAN) COTTRELL
(12/15/1951 - 8/19/2013)



Cynthia Ann (Veerman) Cottrell, 61 of Memphis, Missouri passed away at her home in rural Memphis, Missouri on Monday, August 19, 2013.

The daughter of Ernest and Johanna H. (Schimmel) Veerman, she was born on December 15, 1951 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Cindy attended Jack Oak Primary School in rural Mahaska County, Iowa, Garfield Elementary School, Oskaloosa High School and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Education from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri. She taught school at Harmony High School, Wyaconda High School and Schuyler County R-I High School in Queen City, Missouri where she was employed at the time of her death.

On June 10, 1978 in Farmington, Iowa, she was united in marriage to William Willis Cottrell, Jr. and to this union two sons were born, Wally and Clint.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Cottrell of Memphis, Missouri; sons, Wally Cottrell and wife, Trina of Union, Missouri and Clint Cottrell and wife, Courtney of Lee's Summit, Missouri; 3 grandchildren, Grant, Alina and Brett Cottrell of Union, Missouri; one sister, Geraldine Lemon and husband, Larry of Oskaloosa, Iowa; special sister-in-law, Ruth Gray of Grant City, Missouri; other family members and many good friends.

Cindy was preceded in death by her parents.

Cindy was a member of the St. John's Catholic Church in Memphis, Missouri, Secretary of the Parish Council, Treasurer of the Epsilon Iota Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi; Scotland County Farm Bureau, Scotland County Fairboard and Missouri Business Education Association. She also worked for Grant City Manufacturing Company and Scotland County Family Services.

Cindy loved to garden and work in her flower beds. Teaching and encouraging her students was very important to her. She immensely loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the St. John's Catholic Church in Memphis, Missouri with Father Hoi officiating. At 1:00 p.m. a funeral service was held at the Schuyler County High School in Queen City, Missouri with Father Bill Kottenstette officiating. Music was provided by soloist, Brooke Mullinix performing special selections of "Amazing Grace" and "On Eagle's Wings" and "Angels Among Us". Pallbearers were Cody Ford, Cody Ward, Thomas Miller, Andy Graham, Nick Rhodes, Lee Schmitz and Joey Redding. Memorials have been established for a Scholarship Fund for a Schuyler County Business Student. Burial was in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in rural Scotland County, Missouri.
