Tigers Advance to Consolation Game with 60-29 Win Over Palmyra

Things were a little too close for comfort early on, but Scotland County pulled away in the second half of Thursday night's game in Shelbyville to get past the Palmyra junior varsity squad and move into the consolation game of the North Shelby Tournament.

After struggling to find any offense in the opener versus North Shelby, the Tigers rebound in game two of the tourney to best the Panthers 60-29.

SCR-I struggled to hit shots in the first period, getting lone field goals from Cordie Kigar, Lucas Howard and Brice Cowell. Fortunately, Howard and Kigar combined to shoot a perfect 6 of 6 from the free throw line to keep the score tied at 12-12.

Jacob Blessing had a pair of field goals and Kigar also had four points as the Tigers matched their first period scoring performance. The defense held Palmyra to just seven points, giving Scotland County a 24-19 advantage at the intermission.

The Tigers came out of the locker room hitting on all cylinders.

Howard took control of the interior game, pouring in 10 points in the third period. Blessing caught fire from the perimeter, adding eight points for SCR-I, as the Tigers outscored Palmyra 20-8 to extend the margin to 44-25.

SCR-I closed the game with a 16-4 run led by Howard and Jacob Hull to post the 60-29 victory.

Howard finished with 22 points to lead all scorers. Blessing added 14 points and Kigar finished with 10 points. The Tigers improved to 6-8 on the season.
